Coach Chris Thomas, better known as “CT”, is a former HS Basketball player and Track & Field athlete. He did both on the Varsity level at Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord from 2000 – 2004. Receiving local recognition for his success in these sports, he received an athletic scholarship to Alabama State University for Track & Field. While down in Alabama, he did two seasons of Indoor and Outdoor Track-and-Field. Additionally, CT was a walk-on for the Men’s Basketball team his Sophomore year. Having played a season and a half, he was very limited due to injuries, which led him to leave all sports in general to pursue a life in coaching. Making a call to his former high school coach 2008, CT expressed his interest in coaching, and has run with the opportunity since.
Having coached on ALL age levels in basketball since 2006, he brings plenty of adaptive experience into the program along with a successful track record for managing basketball workout programs and developing talent at the grade school, junior varsity, and varsity levels. He’s also actively involved in numerous Basketball Camps and Year-Round basketball programs. He started out working numerous basketball camps like: Championship Basketball Camp (Pleasanton), Harold Pressley Hoops Camp (Rocklin), Rocktown Ballers B-Ball Camp (Rocklin), and One-on-One Summer Hoops (San Ramon).
In his fifteen years of coaching, CT has been a part of many programs over the time. His first official stop on the journey was becoming Boys Freshmen Head Coach at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon from 2008-2010, where he generated a record of 35-15 in the highly competitive Diablo-Foothill Athletic League. Other schools/programs CT has coached at are: Ygnacio Valley HS JV Boys Coach (2010-2012), Wildcats Basketball Club- San Ramon (2007-2010); Jadafly Basketball Academy- Oakland (2011-2013); Bay Area Bandits – San Ramon (2013-2015).
CT is currently an Educator in Oakland with focus Student Support, Behavioral Counseling, Family Engagement, and Cultural Consciousness. He also serves as the assistant for Bay City’s Camps Clinics & Academy program. CT also trains a large of number of players that play for Bay City, in addition to regularly working Bay city’s camps and clinics.
His coaching style is an upbeat and fun, but yet intense style to get his players to turn basketball into something they love doing, and not just playing. “I see potential in ANY player I coach. No matter their skill level, there is always SOMETHING a player can bring to the table to help create a WINNING recipe.”
